VHF Short Range Certificate

We are an accredited training and assessment centre for the Certificate of Competence in Radiotelephony GMDSS Short Range Certificate (SRC). This is a legal requirement for the operation of a VHF radiotelephone fitted with DSC (digital selective calling)

The training and assessment takes place over a full day and includes radiotelephone voice procedures,  operation of a Class D DSC controller and regulations governing the use of a VHF Marine band radiotelephone in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, with particular emphasis on distress and urgency procedures.

We use the very latest Icom VHF units which enable our students to practice using real VHF sets rather than computer simulators. We specialise in private individual tuition and courses are conducted at our premises in Verwood or, an alternative location of your choice.

The course fee is £250 for up to two students (plus travelling expenses if appropriate). When comparing our fees with other schools please remember that our fee is for private tuition, on a one to one basis, arranged on a date to suit you.

All applicants must provide at the time of the course a passport sized photograph and must pay a separate licence issue fee to the RYA of £30.

If you are confident that you have all the knowledge necessary and want to just take the examination, without the associated training, this can be arranged. The fee for the examination, which is set by the RYA, is £70 per person.
