Many countries now require visiting yachtsmen to hold the International Certificate of Competence as a demonstration of their ability.
If you have already completed the Dayskipper or Coastal Skipper practical course the RYA will issue an ICC without further examination. (a full list of the requirements is on the back of the ICC application form)
If you have not already completed an approved practical course it will be necessary to take an ICC test. The test takes about half a day and consists of questions on safety, collision avoidance, pilotage and navigation together with a short practical test. In addition if you wish to take your vessel into the European inland waterways it is necessary to pass a short test on the European Inland Waterways Regulations (CEVNI).
Here at Mercator Maritime we offer a two day ICC/CEVNI course which is ideal for those boat owners who wish to brush up their knowledge before taking the test. During the first day we shall practice basic boat handling and also revise the collision regulations and navigation theory before taking the actual test on the second day. It should be noted that this is not a course for beginners and students should already have the basic knowledge required
The cost of the two day course on your own boat is £350 for up to two students. If you wish to take the course on our school boat the fee is £525 per head.
